The Artificial Superintelligence Alliance (ASI), formed by decentralized platforms SingularityNET, Fetch.ai and Ocean Protocol, has rescheduled its token merger to July 15.
Despite the merger delay, Ben Goertzel, founder and CEO of SingularityNET and ASI, told Cointelegraph that the world could see “superhuman superintelligence within just a few years.”
The delay is attributed to the need for further technical and logistical preparations. Humayun Sheikh, CEO of Fetch.ai, explained:
“This temporary delay does not impact the substantial progress we have made toward creating a decentralized superintelligence network. Our teams are actively working with centralized exchanges to finalize the remaining steps.”

Merger’s long-term objectives
Speaking with Cointelegraph, Goertzel spoke about the road ahead:
“The objective in the long term […] is to create superintelligence and to do that on a decentralized infrastructure. And this is a medium-term rather than immediate goal. We aim to make smarter and smarter AI systems running on decentralized infrastructure, moving these toward general intelligence.”

Joining forces for better chance of success
Goertzel told Cointelegraph that the goal is to unify the efforts of all three AI and blockchain projects to develop decentralized artificial general intelligence (AGI).
“Once one has a human-level AGI, this system will be able to make itself smarter and smarter, which moves you toward superintelligence. […] Our competitors in this quest are Big Tech companies with trillion-dollar-plus valuations. […] So it seemed like joining forces would give us higher odds of success.”

To Singularity… and beyond
Speaking to Cointelegraph about the AGI timeline and when we could expect this level of technology to rollout, Goertzel said:
“Could be three years. It could be eight years. It’s very unlikely to be this year. It’s very unlikely to be 2100. I think we’re converging there. […] I think we’re getting close, and I think that we may see massively superhuman superintelligence within just a few years.”
On the topic of previous AGI predictions, Goertzel spoke about the American inventor, futurist and author Ray Kurzweil, known for his work in artificial intelligence (AI):
“Kurzweil figured human level AGI 2029 and singularity in 2045, but I think he underestimated the speed at which an AGI may be able to improve its own intelligence.”
Support for the delayed ASI merger will be provided on the official AGIX, FET and OCEAN channels, as well as the ASI channel.
